Studio 10 debate rages as protesters gather outside 10

A small group of protesters rally at Pyrmont studio but on-air debate finds little consensus.

A small group of protesters today gathered outside 10’s Pyrmont headquarters following yesterday’s clash between Kerri-Anne Kennerley and Yumi Stynes on Studio 10.

Stynes cancelled her appearance today after her feud on air yesterday in which she told Kennerley she was “sounding racist.”

This morning Studio 10 revisited the topic with two Indigenous community members, Greens MP Lidia Thorpe and Alice Springs councillor Jacinta Nampijinpa.

Host Sarah Harris acknowledged there was too little discussion and representation of Indigenous Australians on commercial television, but it was soon clear there was little consensus on either major issues nor remedies.

But there was agreement that both women and Kerri-Anne Kennerly would visit Alice Springs to see communities first hand.

“I will. I’d very, very happy to do that,” Kennerley said.

  1. After watching this debate I see why there is no progress made. Both sides are correct to some degree but both sides are so obsessed with their own views and circumstances that no one is seeing the truth. Moving the day will not solve anything because you will still have people like Lidia with her “victim” mentality always blaming others, however she is correct in that it was white mans interference and oppressing in those early days which has created this culture of negativity, frustration and lack of motivation through the loss of identity which comes with invasion/settlement/what ever, as seen in other parts of the world. When peoples identity, culture and way of life is taken from them there are always issues, issues which are not address or plainly ignored.
On the other hand, Jiacinta comes from the point of view that we must forget the past and move on, which is ideally the way…

  2. You can hear the hatred in KAK voice when she was grabbing random faces to support her argument. The topic was Invasion day/Australia day. Playing the victim was unsurprising and totally fit with her White privilege.

  3. It’s getting to the point where these issues won’t be discussed in mainstream media because of the unwanted attention it attracts (protesters) and people fearing they’ll be branded racist. I can’t see how sweeping the issues under the carpet will aid those who need assistance but I’m a middle aged, white male who isn’t allowed to have an opinion on these things.

  4. Bad idea to sign-up KAK on Studio 10. She was always going to assume the leaders roll. This is just a publicity stunt which everyone has fallen for. Any other news please.

  5. Well done Studio 10 on getting these two guests on too debate the issue and letting them debate the issue without interrupting too much. I like KAK but she does need to realise it is not her show and all about her…..or her opinion. Certainly interesting the two different guests views. The former Labour MP really struggled to convince me that fixing the past will fix the future.

  6. KAK needs to remember that she isn’t the host of this show, nor is she in charge, and to stop cutting people off and trying to dominate the conversation. When she first joined the show I thought she would be a great addition, but she doesn’t belong there at all. Get rid if her !!

    1. I tend to agree Gaz, I had always liked her, but she has been grinding on me since here. I think she needs to be in her own not in an group setting as she like to dominate

  7. What exactly are they protesting against?
KAK shouldn’t have linked the issues but violence against women does occur in these communities and at a higher rate.
Are they protesting because no one is allowed to raise the issue?
