BAFTA TV Awards 2019: nominations

Killing Eve and A Very English Scandal lead UK's top TV awards -but there is controversy.

Killing Eve and A Very English Scandal lead the 2019 BAFTA TV nominations, with 14 and 12 nods respectively (including TV Craft nominations).

Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh are both in the running for lead actress alongside Ruth Wilson for Mrs Wilson and Keeley Hawes for Bodyguard (let’s give it to Oh now?).

Killing Eve competes with Bodyguard, Save Me and Informer in the Drama series stakes. A Very English Scandal is up for Miniseries against Kiri, Mrs. Wilson and Patrick Melrose.

Killing Eve’s nods come with some controversy given it was a US commission.

A BAFTA spokeswoman told Deadline, “BAFTA’s TV Committee has deemed Killing Eve eligible owing to the significant creative contribution from key talent residing in the UK both in front of, and behind, the camera. Development and post-production also took place in the UK.”

Hugh Grant, Chance Perdomo, Lucian Msamati and Benedict Cumberbatch compete for the Lead Actor gong (tip Cumberbatch?).

The Last Leg with Aussie Adam Hills is vying for the Comedy Entertainment category.

Winners are announced on May 12th.
