This week’s episode of You Can’t Ask That reveals the lives of travelling Show People or ‘Carnies’ as they are colloquially known.

This is a group who get a bad rap when agricultural shows or carnivals roll into town. Living in caravans and spruiking their amusement rides, sideshow games and attractions, they have the reputation of being dirty, toothless and untrustworthy scammers. But what’s show life really like for these Aussie nomads? How do they survive spruiking for their supper? And what do we actually have to do to win that giant teddy?

9pm Wednesday on ABC.

  2. Is this a repeat ? I feel like I’ve seen this one before, and last weeks Intersex episode was very familiar, unless I’m getting mixed up with Insight.

    3. The intersex episode of Insight contained a lot of the same guests that appeared on the intersex episode of You Can’t Ask That, so it may feel a bit familiar. Plus, all of season 4 has been available on iView upon broadcast of the first episode on ABC.

      Incidentally, these sorts of shows tend to poach the same guests for their own programmes. I appeared on an episode of Insight a few years ago, and Today Tonight ran a story shortly after where they poached a bunch of guests from the Insight episode and made no acknowledgement of Insight’s contributions. It was the Insight producers that put in the effort into finding the guests, and Seven exploited that to their advantage because the groundwork had already been laid for them. Sounds like the sort of tactic you’d see spoofed in an episode of Frontline.
