Guy Pearce to star in new take on A Christmas Carol

Guy Pearce to play Ebenezer Scrooge in a three-part special by writer Steven Knight.

BBC and FX are partnering on a new adaptation of A Christmas Carol starring Guy Pearce as Ebenezer Scrooge.

The three-part special by Steven Knight (Taboo, Peaky Blinders) based on the Charles Dickens classic is described as a haunting, hallucinatory, spine-tingling immersion into the dark night of the soul.

The cast also includes Andy Serki as Ghost of Christmas Past; Stephen Graham as Jacob Marley; Charlotte Riley as Lottie; Joe Alwyn as Bob Cratchit; Vinette Robinson as Mary Cratchit; Rutger Hauer as the Ghost of Christmas Future; Kayvan Novak as Ali Baba and Lenny Rush as Tim Cratchit.

Steven Knight says: “This production of A Christmas Carol will respectfully present what we believe to be a timely interpretation of a timeless story.”

Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama, says: “We’re incredibly excited that filming has begun on Steve Knight’s brilliant interpretation of A Christmas Carol, with Nick Murphy directing a phenomenal cast in what promises to be an iconic version of the classic tale.”

It will be produced by FX Productions, Scott Free, Hardy Son & Baker for BBC One.

Although an Australian broadcaster is yet to be confirmed, Foxtel would be front-runner for this one.
