Returning: The Voice

A new Coach, format changes and fewer Live shows this year.

The Voice returns to Nine in two weeks with format changes this year.

Guy Sebastian joins as a Coach, with former contestants returning as “All Stars.”

“I’m really pumped to be a coach on the new season of The Voice,” Sebastian said. “Being a musician over the last 15 years has been an extremely fulfilling time. I love that I can share my experience with new aspiring artists so we can inject some fresh talent into the music industry.”

Delta Goodrem, Boy George, Kelly Rowland and host Sonia Kruger all return.

This year there are only two Live shows, although one will end with a Live elimination.

Blind Auditions (10 Episodes)
Knockouts (3 Episodes)
Battles (2 Episodes)
Finals (5 Episodes. Finals x3 episodes with the 3rd show having a Live elimination)
Live Semi Final x 1 episode
Live Grand Finale x 1 episode

The Voice will premiere over three nights from Sunday, May 19.

Blind Auditions: Here we meet the hopefuls who will audition for our coaches for the chance to turn a chair and securing a place on one of the four teams.

Knockouts: The top 48 artists go head-to-head in groups of three as they perform a song their coach has chosen within a theme. There are two exciting “saves” for each coach to add artists to their team.

Battles: In this stage of the competition artists perform in pairs. One artist wins the battle and each coach gets a wildcard to take through from the unsuccessful artists on their team, resulting in four artists per team moving into the finals.

Finals: The top 16 artists battle it out for a place in the Grand Final where the Top 4 will compete to win The Voice Australia 2019.

The winner of The Voice will receive the grand prize of a recording contracting with EMI and $100,000 in prizemoney.

The Voice Australia is filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney and produced by ITV studios for Nine.

7pm Sunday May 19 on Nine.

  1. Guy will be a great and interesting edition! Delta with Boy George looking great as always and Kelly looks fabulous! Our judges are ready…

  2. Hi David, do we know why there are so few live shows this year? It is truly a shame because Australia doesn’t really have any proper live singing contests anymore like x factor or Oz Idol where we got to know the contestants over a few months with 10 to 12 live shows and celebrate the music industry like they used to anymore. American Idol has lost a bit of its edge with the judges never properly giving advice to their contestants which just leaves the UK with the X Factor and strictly come dancing where they still give advice criticism and praise whilst making entertaining and successful programs. Even the voice uk has more interactivity with its audience voting etc! Any thoughts David? Thanks in advance! 🙂

    1. 100% agree with your post. Too much fluff at the start… and no time to get to know the finalists. Having 2-3 months of finals like idol and x factor helped the public to connect and get behind particular contestants. This will more than likely again produce a no hit wonder winner as previous seasons.

  3. It will be interesting how Guy Sebastian will go as Voice Coach and seeing some familiar contestants. The date at the end of the article is wrong.
