Seven News at 2019 high but Nine wins Monday

Ratings: Queen's Birthday AFL match pushes Seven News up. The Voice has an easy timeslot victory.

The Queen’s birthday holiday in several states impacted a number of shows yesterday with an arvo AFL match (on 554,00 viewers) pushing Seven News to a 2019 high.

Seven News was #1 with 1.3m viewers including wins in Melbourne, Adelaide & Perth.

The Voice easily won its slot at 1.02m and topped older demos then House Rules (761,000), MasterChef Australia (674,000) and Australian Story (591,000)

Later Have You Been Paying Attention? was best for 10 at 675,000 and topped the younger demo.

But breakfast TV was down across the board due to the holiday with Sunrise (246,000), Today (171,000) and News Breakfast (84,000 / 40,000).

Nine network won Monday -just- with 28.6% then Seven 28.0%, 10 19.3%, ABC 16.3 and SBS 7.8%.

Home and Away (701,000), The Chase (485,000 / 258,000 in select cities), 9-1-1 (414,000) and God Friended Me (198,000).

Nine News drew 1.03m / 1.02m for Nine. A Current Affair was high at 899,000, then Hot Seat (521,000 / 297,000), Motown 60: A Grammy Celebration (394,000).

The Project drew 533,000 / 323,000 for 10 then 10 News First (394,000), Celebrity Name Game (276,000) and Kinne Tonight (232,000). A Mr. Black replay was 90,000.

ABC News (739,000), Four Corners (580,000), 7:30 (573,000), Q&A (339,000), The Drum (191,000) also comprised ABC’s night.

On SBS it was 63 Up (292,000), Medicine or Myth? (288,000), 24 Hours in Emergency (203,000) and SBS World News (142,000).

Bluey (199,000) led multichannels again.

  1. Fantastic numbers for 7News Melbourne last night – doubtless the preceding big AFL game had quite an effect but even so… Mitch, Tim and Jane are a very strong line up in my view.

    1. This article is cheeky as the only reason 7News Melbourne won was because of the Queens Birthday Big Freeze lead in. As usual 7News Melbourne loses in Melbourne and Sydney as they have a far stronger line up of presenters, better stories and a better product. To Splash Peter Mitchell’s head across TV Tonight because he won a night is deceiving as it makes it look like he’s a winner and winning the ratings. Just look at last nights figures and you can see 9 News Melbourne smashes 7 out of the water. Jane Bunn has her fans but also has a lot of enemy’s that cannot stand how she presents and let’s face it the 7News team have had a lot of in-house fighting as reported in the HS recently and that will take years to clean out the main people behind that fighting. 9 News Sydney and Melbourne seem to have good strong teams behind them and they present so much better that 7News in terms of…

      1. Thanks for input. The story is about Monday ratings as indicated, and the copy clearly states it was a boost from AFL. Seven News was a 2019 high so I have no qualms with it leading the copy. The race has tightened in Melbourne overall.

    1. @nic c. I was thinking the same thing. Greys last week was excellent (mid season US break at the end of ep8). Storylines on point with earlier seasons. So deserving of a main channel broadcast.
