Ash Barty on 7TWO

Ash Barty takes takes on American Alison Riske from 7:30pm tonight on 7TWO.

Ash Barty takes to the Wimbledon court again tonight, Australian time, taking on American Alison Riske from 7:30pm on 7TWO.

Tennis coverage also switches to the primary channel from 9pm AEST meaning SWAT is out for the night.

Coverage of Barty’s match commences at 7.30pm (AEST) on 7TWO, but the Australian star’s game is only the start of a massive night at The Championships that is also headlined by Spanish maestro Rafael Nadal’s clash with Portugal’s João Sousa.

Barty has not dropped a set in the tournament so far but will need to be at her best against the unseeded Riske, who has upset two seeds, Donna Vekic and Belinda Bencic, already.

Entering the second week of Wimbledon for the first time in her career, the recently crowned French Open Champion is bidding for a spot in the quarter-finals, where she could face a showdown with all-time great Serena Williams.

Nadal is also in hot form fresh off his annihilation of former Wimbledon semi-finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, but the dual All-England champion faces a danger game against the unseeded Sousa, who upset 12th seed Marin Cilic in the second round.

The commentary team consists of a host of the biggest names in tennis, including John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Martina Navratilova, Tracy Austin and Tim Henman.

All singles and doubles finals, as well as the singles semi-finals, will be exclusively live on Channel 7, 7TWO and 7mate.

Fans can also stream Wimbledon live on 7plus and the 7Sport app, and catch up on all the highlights and interviews on the app.

  1. As a ratings one-off it may well have made sense to shift House Rules to 7TWO and play tennis from 7pm or 7.30pm on the main Ch7… but given presumably House Rules is still very much a premium ‘seven brand’ it would show little confidence in this title to shift it off the main showcase just for the night… as well as potentially confusing viewers of both?

    1. Riske is a grass player and has already won two grass titles this season, so she definitely will be Barty’s first test of the tournament.

  2. Looks like Seven are sensibly reacting to last week’s negative reaction (and resulting press coverage) in not prioritising Ash Barty’s opening match by having tennis (including likely some of the Ash Barty match) on the main 7 and 7HD channels from the earlier 9pm hand-over time from 7TWO tonight. Makes sense ratings-wise too in all likelihood!

  3. Wish they’d drop House Rules for tonight as well – just do Wimbledon from 7.30pm on Seven so can be HD, not live and blurry on 7TWO. Tennis at that time has the potential to do better than House Rules.
