Sprawling BBC HBO miniseries His Dark Materials, based on the books by author Philip Pullman, has  a lavish trailer at Comic Con.

The eight-part adaptation series by writer Jack Thorne features Dafne Keen as Lyra Belacqua, Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter, James McAvoy as Lord Asriel, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby and Clarke Peters as the Master of Jordan College.

It is tipped for late 2019 on FOX Showcase.

HBO are becoming the go to for cinema quality productions on the small screen, the BBC have developed CGI excellence in recent years which makes it a perfect collaboration with hopefully more to follow. The ABC should take note of the creative and commercial initiatives the BBC have taken in recent decades they don’t let the grass grow under their feet in this challenging world.

  2. I don’t think this will be the next Game of Thrones for HBO. It will probalby get a season 2 though, it has an OK following from the book series.
