Brent Williams appointed Director of Sport at Nine

Head of Cricket and longtime live exec producer at Nine is promoted to top Sports role.

Nine has appointed Brent Williams as its new Director of Sport, following Tom Malone moving to Managing Director – Radio.

Williams was appointed as Head of Cricket at Nine in 2016, but has worked at Nine for the past 25 years starting on Hey Hey It’s Saturday.

He has been as exec producer on the AFL Footy Show, Sunday Footy Show, Footy Classified. He has also worked extensively on Live sports broadcasts, including the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games, the London Summer Olympics, as well as 10 AFL EJ Whitten Games and five years of AFL broadcasting.

He has also produced five TV Week Logie Awards, Carols by Candlelight, and several Allan Border Medal awards.

“I’m excited to be taking on the role as Director of Sport,” he said.

“As a sports tragic, it’s literally a dream job.

I’m lucky to already be a member of that family and know first-hand the pride, passion and responsibility that comes with any product branded with the famous WWOS logo.

“It’s an honour to be leading the team and I look forward to driving the evolution of Nine’s sports broadcasting and broader sports strategy into the future.”

Sport at Nine also now reports to News boss Darren Wick.

“Beyond his list of impressive achievements, Brent is highly respected and very popular with his colleagues. His style of management favours close collaboration, innovation and motivation,” Wick said in a note to staff.

“In an exciting, changing and challenging environment for sport on free to air television, we’re looking forward to the fresh ideas and energy he’ll bring.

“Brent’s appointment takes effect immediately. He’ll report into myself as part of a newly aligned management structure where Nine Sport and News will collaborate closely on major projects.”

  1. Hey David does this mean there is more of a chance that they could bring back the good old days and get the NRL & AFL Footy Shows and also Hey Hey It’s Saturday?? Would be awesome if he can..

  2. Hopefully by the end of the current cricket contact to Foxtel, Nine can reclaim the cricket rights so everyone can watch every game live and free. No need to pay for watching of one day games on Foxtel. Not everyone is able to afford Foxtel.
