Good news for fans of British drama with new seasons of favourite shows on BBC First.

Season 23 of Silent Witness screens Wednesdays at 8.30pm from January 8. This is a 10 part season.

Dr Nikki Alexander and the team at the Lyell Centre must solve five more thrilling mysteries in this award-winning crime drama. A body in the concrete pillar of a car park. A downed plane. Scientific research gone wrong. The cases that end up at the Lyell Centre are rarely straightforward. Initial suspicions are challenged as the evidence mounts, and Nikki and the team must work harder than ever to find the truth.

Season 9 of Death in Paradise screens Fridays at 8.30pm from January 10. This is an 8 part season.

Detective Inspector Jack Mooney may have settled into life on the glorious Caribbean island of Saint Marie, but the murders keep coming. Joined by their new DS, Madeleine, the team solve some of the most confounding crimes they’ve ever seen. From an apparent serial killer on the loose on New Year’s Eve to a man stabbing during a survival weekend on a deserted tropical island, the cases are more baffling than ever. And an unexpected romantic encounter prompts some soul-searching for Jack.

Ralf Little joins the cast as Detective Inspector Neville Parker taking over from Ardal O’Hanlon who is set to make his final appearance this series. Parker is reluctantly dispatched to Saint Marie to investigate the suspicious death of a woman from his home city of Manchester.

  1. Both shows premiere at 10am Next day On BBC First, which is 2 hours after it’s UK broadcast. Same with Call the Midwife 10am Monday morning.
