French supernatural series The Last Wave (not to be confused with classic Aussie movie) begins next Monday on a late slot on SBS.
This one has a very creative synopsis….
This is a 6 part drama in French with English subtitles.
In this supernatural thriller, an ominous cloud meets a supersized wave during a surfing competition, engulfing the participants in one fell swoop. When the cloud dissipates and the water settles, the surfers are nowhere to be seen. Five hours later, they reappear safe and sound – but with no recollection of their disappearance. One by one, the returning surfers discover that they have been changed by the event, each now possessing exceptional and inexplicable powers.
With the town united in fear, waiting for another wave to strike, scientist Ben Lebon makes an amazing discovery concerning the mysterious cloud hovering over the ocean – a discovery that has far-reaching consequence for all of Brizan’s residents.

SBS is buying up a lot of European TV for On Demand. This is not one of the great ones: it’s certainly no Les Revenants. S2 of the Pier has been streamed in Spain, I’d prefer that.
Sounds like Misfits in a different setting. I’ll watch.
How many times has this plot device been used in the past few years?
They say there’s only 7 stories in the world. But I don’t think anyone has done it with surfers!
