My Brilliant Friend: The Story of a New Name, based on the second book in Elena Ferrante’s bestselling quadrilogy, returns to FOX Showcase in March.

The follow-up chapter to the critically lauded first season, continuing the story of Elena (Margherita Mazzucco) and Lila (Gaia Girace).

This screened in Italy this week, and on HBO in March.

The acclaimed My Brilliant Friend book series follows the tale of Elena Greco and the most important friend in her life, Lila Cerullo. A writer, immersed in a house full of books, Greco turns on her computer and starts writing the story of their tempestuous friendship, starting from the point when Elena met Lila in their first year of school in 1950.

Set in a dangerous and fascinating Naples, their story goes on to cover more than 60 years of their lives, as she tries to describe the mystery of Lila, Elena’s brilliant friend and, in a way, also her best friend and worst enemy.

Filmed on location in Italy, the 8 x 60 minute Italian language series is directed by returning director from season one, Saverio Costanzo. Costanzo will direct six episodes and Alice Rohrwacher will direct two episodes.

My Brilliant Friend is an HBO and RAI Fiction series, produced by Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani for Wildside and by Domenico Procacci for Fandango, in collaboration with RAI Fiction and HBO Entertainment, in co-production with Umedia. Story and screenplays by Elena Ferrante, Francesco Piccolo, Laura Paolucci and Saverio Costanzo. Paolo Sorrentino and Jennifer Schuur are the executive producers. FremantleMedia International holds the global distribution rights for the series.

My Brilliant Friend – The Story of a New Name is exclusive in Australia to Foxtel.

Wednesday, March 11 at 7.30pm on FOX Showcase.
