Nine News suspends regional bulletins

NSW, Vic. & Qld viewers will be watching Nine metro bulletins for the time being.

Nine News has suspended its regional news bulletins in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland  on Southern Cross.

A Nine spokesperson told TV Tonight, “The national health crisis has forced us to take urgent action to consolidate all our News and Current Affairs teams.

“We are still supplying a nightly regional service – brief news and weather updates. However, until the health crisis passes, the 6pm metro bulletins of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne will be broadcast statewide. And we still have reporters, producers and camera operators in regional Australia, continue to gather local news.”

Nine will produce a local update for 7pm weeknights and a weather update for 8pm weeknights.

Darwin will receive the Queensland news bulletin.

  1. Can someone tell me how depriving people in the bush of their local news actually has anything to do with the virus?? This is nothing more than cost cutting, and to call it anything else is just BS…

  2. This is a good trial of how to reduce the costs permanently.

Nine and SCA are continuing to look to cut costs, especially with consumer confidence outside of the grocery sector at an all time low.

Regional personnel they want will be gradually absorbed into their metro news staff and stringers left to fulfil the minimum requirements administered by ACMA.

  3. Does this include 9/Southern Cross 6pm bulletin for Canberra/ACT?
(ACT not always classed as NSW, plus advise for ACT Government is sometimes different to NSW Gov advice)
