Red Symons hosted Nine game show Shafted in 2002 in which contestants had to decide whether to share money or shaft their opponent (in a kind of all or nothing gamble). Famously they were even dropped through the floor if they were Shafted.
But the show itself was Shafted after just 40 episodes.

What a concept. Definitely unlike anything else before or sense.

And then a couple of years later Deal or No Deal with AOK took to stratospheric heights for much of a decade, the same host and timeslot still doing so now (apart from a year or two around 2013/2014 of Nine’s Hot Seat with Eddie winning).
Shafted was on at 7pm though, replacing Sale of the Century
Meanwhile over on seven, Weakest Link was a 7:30pm offering, twice a week at one point

In the UK, Shafted aired on ITV in Nov 2001. This UK version lasted much shorter than Nine where it ran only 20 eps (16 unaired).
I watched the Nine version as a child & i didn’t like it at all. It was so bad that I had to change channels.
I remember this. Red and the people falling through the floor were the stars of the show. Sadly 10Bold are taking off Celebrity Name Game as tonight is the last episode.😢 Wednesday next week will be 1 year since it started.
Nine had its hopes on this show after Sale of the Century ended in 2001. But after Shafted didn’t work they bought back The Price is Right. A show that was on well until 2005 until Larry moved networks.

This was declared one of the worst game shows ever made.
and my mate got truely shafted by this program. Did the record on Wednesday night and he won just over $2500. The next day, they completely reworked the format because of tanking ratings and those episodes were never shown and as with all game shows, you only get the money if the show airs. A long fight with the producers resulted

Of course, 7 was enjoying the wave from The Weakest Link at the time, this was basically a variation on that ‘mean play’ format
Haha, I remember there was a promo where they made changes to the format and it ran as something like ‘all new faster shafted’…
Remember watching this show. I do believe one of the contestants from one of the early episodes was from Season 1 of The Mole (which was on Seven in case you were wondering).
