Binge contest looking for best reviewers

Streaming service contest offers 12 month subscription for viewer reviews.

Streaming newcomer Binge has launched a national competition to find 10 online reviewers.

They will get to review and talk about their favourite titles on Binge with a chance to have their reviews published across News Corp publications and Binge channels.

The 10 winners will become the inaugural members of a “Binge Club” and receive a free 12 month Binge Standard subscription.

The prize is valued at $168 but the published reviews will not be paid for. It isn’t clear in the Terms and Conditions how many reviews will be required of winners.

Binge Chief Marketing Officer, Louise Crompton said: “Binge has over 10,000 hours of unturnoffable entertainment. It’s the world’s best shows and movies from the world’s best creators. Binge says it’s okay to switch off and escape the world while indulging in an episode of a show you love, and another – in fact we stand for it.

“And now with the Binge Club, we are out to find the country’s biggest Bingers that love content, and love to talk about content. And in return we will share your reviews with Australia as one of our official Bingers – letting people know what to watch, and what’s hot.

“And to say thanks, we’ll give you 12 months of Binge on us – does it get any better?”

Former Goggleboxers Adam Densten and Symon Lovett, added, “They always say make your passion your job and you’ll never work a day in your life, so I guess we haven’t worked for a little while.

“Bingeing is the most time efficient way to watch anything. We’re not sure this is backed by science. But we’re strong advocates.”

Entrants should explain what makes them the country’s best entertainment reviewer and submit a review of their favourite show or movie on Binge, either in a written or video entry.

The competition is open now and closes on 31 July, 2020. Terms and Conditions and entry details are available via this link. The competition will be a game of skill based on the 10 most creative, original and insightful entries, with the winners to be announced in News Corp’s Sunday Binge Guide

  1. Maybe they should be reviewing Binge itself. That way more people would know of its complete lack of HDR and 4K streaming, as well as no closed captions, and the fact that it constantly crashes due to a “too many active streams” error. Heck, give the paying subscribers 12 months free at this rate.

  2. How many News Corp journalists and Foxtel employees have been laid off recently? During a period where many struggle to find paid work, yet streaming services are having their day in the sun.

This *competition* to obtain unpaid content for bulking-out News Corp publications while effectively acting as advertisements for the service reads as incredibly exploitive and trying to form some analogy between these unpaid services and fan clubs/fanmags/fanzines of old is especially scummy.

“ – does it get any better?”
