Returning: Shetland

Season 5 of UK crime series Shetland begins on ABC in early August in an early Sunday evening slot.

This aired on Pay TV in June 2019.

A jogger on her morning run discovers a severed hand on the beach. Perez and the team are shocked by the discovery. Even more so, when a holdall containing further body parts, including a head, is found at an inlet nearby.

Cora’s initial forensic investigations reveal that the body parts all belong to the same victim. A young black man, possibly from Nigeria. But what was he doing on Shetland? She finds traces of lye on the body. It appears that someone attempted to dissolve the body parts in lye prior to dumping them at sea.

Sandy tracks down recent buyers of lye. The most recent purchaser was a scrap metal firm run by Carla Hayes and her sons Prentice and Jamie. Although they deny any knowledge of the murder, they are acting quite suspiciously.
