Airdate: Rebecca

Lily James and Armie Hammer star in new adaptation of a classic.

Lily James and Armie Hammer star in new adaptation of Rebecca by author Daphne du Maurier (famously a Hitchcock classic with Joan Fontaine).

The feature film cast also includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Keeley Hawes, Ann Dowd, Sam Riley, Tom Goodman-Hill, Mark Lewis Jones, John Hollingworth and Bill Paterson.

After a whirlwind romance in Monte Carlo with handsome widower Maxim de Winter (Armie Hammer), a newly married young woman (Lily James) arrives at Manderley, her new husband’s imposing family estate on a windswept English coast. Naive and inexperienced, she begins to settle into the trappings of her new life, but finds herself battling the shadow of Maxim’s first wife, the elegant and urbane Rebecca, whose haunting legacy is kept alive by Manderley’s sinister housekeeper Mrs. Danvers (Kristin Scott Thomas). Directed by Ben Wheatley (High Rise, Free Fire) and produced by Working Title Films (Emma, Darkest Hour), Rebecca is a mesmerising and gorgeously rendered psychological thriller based on Daphne du Maurier’s beloved 1938 gothic novel.

Directed By: Ben Wheatley

  1. Loved the book and enjoyed the original movie, so I’ll watch this too. (There was a 90s mini-series remake too with Charles Dance as Maxim and Diana Rigg [RIP], which was unfortunately a bit dull.) Speaking of thrillers on Netflix, I’m hoping they get “The Woman In The Window” on their platform, if the rumours are true.

  2. Ugh… Great cast & I’m certain it will be watchable, but some classics just shouldn’t be touched.

I couldn’t believe that ‘Psycho’ was remade and I’m dreading the day that ‘Vertigo’ gets that treatment.
