My understanding is that AFL beats the NRL on FTA big time but NRL do pull back a little on Fox sports and the regionals. Clearly the NSW/ACTand QLD regionals are a bigger population and viewership than the “AFL states” and no doubt will remain rusted on for a long time yet. However Ch 9 would likely “kill” to have Ch 7’s five city metro figures and this is the “big one” among the broadcasters. It will be interesting to see what Ch 9 does at the next broadcast rights tender. Methinks the AFL will be the “premium brand” amongst the FTA broadcasters, especially as Ch 9 have already let the world know what they think about their partnership with the NRL and I suspect it is going to be all downhill over the next few years. NRL people will claim “the glory” of winning Foxtel more often than not, but FTA is still the jewell in the crown. But why does the NRL generally win subscription TV?…
NRL missing out on the top 20 again – did they code the multi channels? Would it have made a difference? The Chase was pretty high.
I really enjoy your weekly comment about Nrl ratings clip! You might be interested to know they have been excellent on fox and are up about 20% this year. Channel 9s awful coverage probably has a lot to do with that.
It’s interesting- with more people home you would expect Foxtel viewing to rise – has AFL gone up as well? Is the rise people that may have watched fta?
The rise For nrl in Foxtel is in Foxtel Go, kayo etc. these numbers are hard to find and you have to rely on Foxtel press releases usually to get them. As an example Foxtel reported 480000 viewers for a Saturday night nrl game a week ago and only 295000 were recorded as watching its major streaming service. I have no idea what the afl figures are.
I think it’s because of the increase of Kayo and Foxtel Go subscriptions. I know a lot of people that have switched from Foxtel to Kayo.
That’s right mate
No doubt that’s a factor jacob, but common sense would say that would apply to all codes, so why are afl fta figures still holding up, remembering that fta at present still is the main dollar component in these deals
Numbers for Sunrise and Today please
I give these 4 days a week.
I wonder why the afl ratings go up during the post game show (It did go overtime tho)
Because it is much shorter.
