Holey Moley begins filming in Brisbane

Matt Shirvington & Rob Riggle to commentate for Seven, with host Sonia Kruger & pro-golfer Greg Norman.

Filming will get underway on Holey Moley in Brisbane today with Matt Shirvington to commentate alongside US actor / comedian Rob Riggle.

Sonia Kruger remains as host with Greg Norman as Resident Golf Pro.

The Eureka Productions reality series is an Australian concept which has done great business in the US and won a number of TV Awards.

Last year at Seven’s Upfronts, footage drew plenty of mirth from media buyers, but plans to film stateside, including with Brian ‘BT’ Taylor and actress Olympia Valance, were halted by the pandemic and the show is pushed to 2021 with an Aussie course.

Angus Ross, Seven’s Director of Network Programming said, “Holey Moley is serious family fun. From the sensational course you must see to believe, to the brilliant comedy and the make or break putts, this series will deliver unpredictable entertainment. Audiences can expect the unexpected on the Holey Moley course.”

Sonia Kruger said: “Holey Moley is refreshingly new, utterly unique and completely bonkers, which I’m pretty sure is why they thought I’d be a natural fit.

“It’s a total thrill to be working with the god of golf himself, the one and only Great White Shark, Greg Norman. Plus, I get to work with international comedy megastar Rob Riggle and Aussie sporting champion Matt Shirvington, or Shirvo and Riggle as I like to call them, which I’ll probably just shorten to ‘Shiggle’ for economy of words.”

Holey Moley is such an insane concept. Sport meets entertainment on a mind-blowing scale,” says Matt Shirvington.

“I’m really looking forward to sharing the desk with Rob. I’m a huge fan of his work, he’s hilarious. Getting the chance to work with Sonia again on such a mad show is amazing, she’s such great fun. And of course, The Shark; few Australians have dominated their sport to the degree Greg Norman has – he’s one of the true Aussie legends, an absolute powerhouse.”

Holey Moley sees mini golf lovers from around Australia competing head-to-head on the unparalleled, larger-than-life obstacle mini golf course. They’ll face out-of-this-world putting and physical challenges while they attempt to complete the course and reach the daunting final hole.

Each episode, one winner will take home the “Golden Putter” trophy and coveted Holey Moley plaid jacket. Then, in the Grand Final, the winners from every episode will face off for the chance to take home the $100,000 grand prize. It all comes down to one putt!

  1. Have they dug out a whole new course for this to mirror the one in the US (which is filmed on the old Wipeout course), or is it located on an existing lake or pool facility?

    1. Holey Moley is done in the Redland Shire just outside Brisbane and they cut down a koala habitat tree corridor to do this show. Swamp wallabies frequented the area as well. Corridors are very important to koalas even if its only a small amount of trees considering they are endangered and have already lost a lot of habit here for homes.. And its right next to an animal shelter. Not too many people impressed, and they often film late at night as well.

  2. I caught the promo on Sunrise this morning. Reminds me of ‘It’s a Knockout’ with a golf club included.
Looks like some fun family viewing.

  3. Having just watched the US Series 2 (“the sequel” – will watch Series 1 next), I’ve been wanting to comment on it somewhere and here it is!
Firstly, it doesn’t need a host. I’m not even sure what the host would do. It just seems like a reason to attach Sonia Kruger’s name to it. As mentioned, Olympia Valance (or similar), would be a good on course commentator .
Rob Riggle is a good get, I am sometimes literally laughing out loud at the banter between him and Joe Tessitore. I’ll reserve judgement on Matt Shirvington, he just needs chemistry with Riggle.
And what role will Greg Norman have I wonder? And anyone who has seen the US version will know there’s a perfect role for Matthew Mitcham in this show .
Looking forward to this, I just hope they don’t bugger it up.
If you are hesitant about watching it, it is funnier (well the US version is) than it seems on paper.

  4. Olympia Valance would have great on this – about time her star began to rise! Also just announced her engagement today so might have something to do with it! Looking forward to this the US version is a heap of fun and Sonia can do no wrong

  5. I will be pleasantly surprised if this works for seven.
Having said that, I won’t be alarmed if it’s just more to add to the pile of junk they have trotted out in 2020.
