LA urged to pause production

“Although music, TV and film productions are allowed to operate, we ask you to strongly consider pausing work."

Production companies across Los Angeles have been urged to pause production for several weeks as Los Angeles battles a “catastrophic” surge in COVID cases.

In a statement the Los Angeles County Department said, “Although music, TV and film productions are allowed to operate, we ask you to strongly consider pausing work for a few weeks during this catastrophic surge in Covid cases. Identify and delay higher risk activities, and focus on lower-risk work for now, if at all possible.”

On Monday LA County reported 73 new deaths and 13,661 new cases with an estimated additional 432 deaths that reflect delayed reporting due to outages and the holiday weekend. The day before there were 13,580 new positive cases and 44 new deaths.

“Hospitals are full virtually everywhere,” L.A. Health noted, and encouraged filmmakers to “keep cast and crew close to home.”

However with two coronavirus vaccines approved for use and thousands of frontline healthcare workers already receiving their first doses, they also reassured filmmakers that “there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”

At the time of writing, there have been 733,325 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Los Angeles County and 9555 deaths.
