Nightly News 7 wins year in Tasmania

Despite presentation changes with hosts, viewers stick with Nightly News 7 Tasmania.

Nightly News 7 Tasmania has won the ratings year in the island state, outranking ABC News, WIN News, Nine News and SBS World News.

The highest rating bulletin for the year was on the 2nd of April with 112,216 viewers, equivalent to 21% of the state’s population.

“It was a year of turmoil for us with the departure of both our weekday and weekend news readers. Jo Palmer had hosted the weekday bulletin since 2002 and was an institution in this market,” said Grant Wilson, Director of News.

“35 year weather host Peter Murphy held the fort presenting weekday news for 10 weeks following Palmer’s departure ahead of the appointment of Kim Millar.

“I was amazed at how resilient our product was in the wake of Jo’s departure. Our ratings remained constant right through the transition to Kim Millar and held right up until the advent of daylight savings.

“This result is a testament to everyone who works so hard everyday to be the best they can, what a privilege it is to work with them.”

  1. Consistent presenters as opposed to the merry-go-round of presenters on WIN news, who quite often miss pronounce town names, has a lot to do with the ratings. This reading from elsewhere leads to problems.
