Vale: Marcus D’Amico

Marcus D’Amico, best known for Tales of the City miniseries, has died.

Actor Marcus D’Amico, best known for the original Tales of the City miniseries, has died, aged 55.

He died Dec. 16 of pneumonia at his home in Oxfordshire, England, family confirmed.

D’Amico played genial Michael “Mouse” Tolliver on the groundbreaking miniseries Tales of the City in 1993. The series was an adaptation of Armistead Maupin’s novels about queer characters in ’70s San Francisco. Mouse befriended Mary Ann Singleton (Laura Linney) but D’Amico did not reprise the role in the sequels More Tales of the City (1998), Further Tales of the City (2001) nor the Netflix reprisal in 2019, Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City (Aussie Murray Bartlett took over he role).

His other credits included Full Metal Jacket, Superman II, Drop the Dead Donkey, As Time Goes By, Murder Most Horrid, The Alienist, The Bill, Family Affairs, Trainer, S.W.A.L.K. and on stage credits Angels in America.

  1. This is very sad to hear. Marcus as Mouse was utterly adorable, and although Paul Hopkins taking over the role was still good, it was never quite the same for me…sincere condolences to his family.
