It is based on the character created by Philip Francis Nowlan in 1928, which was later turned into a television series – Buck Rogers in the 25th Century in 1979.

It centered around Captain William Anthony “Buck” Rogers, played by Gil Gerard, a pilot, whose spacecraft malfunctions and Rogers is accidentally frozen for over 500 years and transported into a world where Earth was rebuilt following a nuclear war.

  1. The original 1930s serial shorts, intended to be shown at the cinema on a weekly basis, were shown on TV here in 1979 as episodes-were a hoot with no radar or other secret at the time technology-the bad guys were gangster mob bosses who had taken power. On the other side, the late 70s TV remake had a cinema release of the double pilot ep as did ‘BattleStat Galactica’ in the wake of the box office success of ‘Starwars’!
