Veteran broadcaster Ray Warren is not quite ready to walk away from calling NRL for Nine.
Warren, 77, tells the Sydney Morning Herald that calling matches off ground during COVID led to a rethink about hanging up his microphone.
Warren was forced to call the Queensland Origin match in the studio due to travel restrictions.
“I’d never contemplated not being at the event, in times gone by, but that was the reality of calling sport last year. I was ready to pull the pin on everything but when I thought about it that wasn’t the type of season I’d like to go out on.”
Nine has cut back his workload in recent years but still wants him for the headline matches, such as finals and State of Origin.
He was inducted into the NRL Hall of Fame in 2019.

He made more than a few mistakes during the calls last year. Everyone makes mistakes, but accuracy was always his hallmark. He won’t be Robinson Crusoe in going on just that bit longer than he should have.
Tend to agree. Know when to hang up the mic.
