An Ally McBeal limited series revival is in the early stages of development, with reports Calista Flockhart will reprise her title role.

TV Line reports creator David E. Kelley, would be involved in the potential sequel series an an executive producer, but a female would likely take the showrunner reins.

“I’d be open to the idea of Ally McBeal being done again, but I don’t think it should be done by me. If it were going to be done, it really should be done by a woman,” he told The Hollywood Reporter back in 2018. “If it’s going to be new, it should be new and different. And I did it: 100 hours.”

The legal dramedy ran from 1997 to 2002.

The cast also included Courtney Thorne-Smith, Greg Germann, Lisa Nicole Carson, Jane Krakowski, Peter MacNicol and Gil Bellows. Portia de Rossi and Lucy Liu joined in Season 2. In Season 4, Robert Downey Jr. came on board as a major love interest for Flockhart.

A network / streamer is not yet attached to the project.

  1. I’d like to see a continuation, if only to see a rectification of that horrendous fifth season that came about because Robert Downey Jr got fired and they had to completely course correct. It was such a mess and the show deserved better. Season 4 was really a return to form.

    1. David E. Kelley was pretty much the writer, and it says in the article he doesn’t want to do it, and that it should be a female writer, which is understandable.

  2. One limited series revival I would definitely watch. The key is getting most of the cast from S1-2 back as they really bounced off each other well.

  3. Was a great show back in the day. Don’t know how i feel about a reboot though. One thing i do remember is the dancing baby lol Kind of became iconic i think.
