Oscar winner Nomadland on Disney+

Oscar winning film will be available on Star on Disney+ from Friday.

Oscar winner Nomadland will be available on Star on Disney+ in Australia and New Zealand on Friday 30 April at no additional charge.

The film took out Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Director today at the Academy Awards, following Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Director at the Golden Globes.

It will also be available at Foxtel on Demand on Friday.

Acclaimed Director, Chloé Zhao makes history, not only as the first woman of colour to be nominated for Best Director but also the first woman to receive four Academy Award nominations in a single year (Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Editing).

Nomadland stars two-time Academy Award winner Frances McDormand (Fargo; Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Academy Award nominee David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck), and real-life actors Swankie, Bob Wells and Linda May, all of whom appeared in Jessica Bruder’s acclaimed book, which Zhao adapted for the screen.

Nomadland centres on Fern (McDormand), who, following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad. The film was produced by McDormand (Olive Kitteridge), Peter Spears (Call Me by Your Name), Dan Janvey (Beasts of the Southern Wild), Mollye Asher (The Rider), and Zhao (The Rider). Zhao also edited the film, with Joshua James Richards (God’s Own Country) serving as Director of Photography and Production Designer, and featuring the sound team of M. Wolf Snyder (The Rider), Sergio Diaz (Roma), and Zach Seivers (Assassins).

  1. That’s incredibly short from theatrical release (even if limited and an indie) to streaming and broadcast, a month or so, still in some cinemas. Wonder if home entertainment/ other digital and FTA soon too. Used to take months for Foxtel, 6 months or a year for DVD and 3 years (!) for FTA! Sign of the times? Good to see I guess.
