Band member tests positive, Iceland withdraws from live Eurovision.

Iceland no longer performing in Live shows, but rehearsal vision will keep them in contention.

In a blow to a Eurovision favourite, a member of the Iceland band Daði og Gagnamagnið has tested positive to COVID-19.

In close collaboration with the EBU and the host broadcaster, Daði og Gagnamagnið have taken the difficult decision to withdraw from performing in this year’s live Eurovision Song Contest shows, as they only want to perform together as a group.

Their song will remain in the competition with organisers to broadcast their rehearsal performance, recorded on the stage on May 13.

Iceland is a Top 5 favourite according to bookmakers, with their song “10 Years.”

Last week, Iceland’s Eurovision 2021 delegation went into isolation following a positive COVID-19 test but now it has impacted on the performers. Earlier the troupe have been cleared to continue.

Keyboard player Jóhann Sigurður made an emotional social media post following the news.

The Icelandic delegation will remain in quarantine and be monitored by the Dutch Health Authorities.

  1. I know in the overall scheme of things in a pandemic world, this isn’t a big deal, but the band have dedicated two years of their life to this and to have their moment to shine taken away at the last minute must be devastating.

    1. Exactly and now Duncan Laurence is in the same boat. Haven’t heard if the host he was standing right next to will have to quarantine or not though.

  2. Good luck getting Joel to be quiet!! After all this is about him and not the talented people who has dedicated their creativity and talent to Eurovision.

  3. Luckily the rehearsal was recorded! Not the same as competing live but still in it!
Can someone please tell Myf and Joel to shut up when commentators or guests are talking. Semi 1 was ruined by their constant talking over the hosts and performances

    1. Yep – totally agree. I’ve live streamed on You Tube the last five years or so, but it’s geo-blocked for Australia this year….Grrrr!

      1. Stream is only available once the show is over unfortunately. I love both on other things but I didn’t see the point of having Joel and Myf gasbag over everything.

    2. Yes, there was a ton of talk-over – though isn’t that basically what Terry Wogan used to do?

They didn’t talk over performances, as far as I saw anyway.
