Axed: Jupiter’s Legacy

Superhero series is ending, but Netflix isn't quite done with the universe yet.

Netflix has released the cast for Jupiter’s Legacy after just one season, effectively ending the show.

The cast included Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb, Elena Kampouris, Matt Lanter, Andrew Horton and Ben Daniels.

But it has also commissioned a Supercrooks which centres on the villains of that same fictional universe from creator Mark Millar.

In a statement on Twitter, Millar said, “I’m really proud of what the team achieved with Jupiter’s Legacy and the amazing work everyone did on that origin season. I’ve been asked a lot about what we’re planning next with this world and the answer is to see what the super-villains are getting up to. I’ve always loved crime stories from Scorcese to Tarantino and super-villains are always the most fun part of any superhero story.

‘To do something exclusively focused on the villains they fight just feels incredibly fresh as we explore what it’s like to be a bad guy in a world crawling with good guys who want to put you in jail. Jupiter’s Legacy is a vast and rich space with lots of characters to mine and so I’m happy to share that our next step here is a live-action version of the Supercrooks comic I created with Leinil Francis Yu a few years back.

“Given where we’re going next, we’ve made the tough call of letting our incredible cast out of their show commitment as we continue to thoughtfully develop all realms of the Jupiter’s Legacy saga. We’re confident we’ll return to it later and just want to say thanks to you guys for your continued support and to the cast and crew who made this look so great.”

  1. Netflix probably wouldn’t have wanted to make a copy of Prime Videos ‘The Boys’ but Jupiter’s Legacy was a pale choice in comparison.
The Boys appeal is that as in your face the story may sometimes have been The Boys always knew what its audience wanted and kept the sometimes coarse and high impact visual surprises coming.
Jupiter’s Legacy did have potential for a second season but would have required a complete rewrite which I guess the producers weren’t prepared to do, besides the ‘Super hero’ genre has had a lot of air time lately, so the idea to focus on the shows criminal characters may be an inspired choice, we shall have to wait and see.

  2. Good. Not one sympathetic character in the whole show. It was confusing and frustrating. That long hair on Josh Duhamel was distracting and not in a good way.

  3. Watched the whole thing and it did get better, but…basically didn’t make much sense.

One dimensional characters with shallow ‘family conflict’. A druggie, Kim Kardashian-type model daughter who rejected her superpowers and superhero family but based her celebrity on having superpowers and being from a superhero family?!

Father’s ludicrious criticism of son for killing villain who’d just ripped off a young hero’s head and was about to super-nuke the whole state? What was the plan then, Dad?

So it’s back to waiting for the next season of The Umbrella Academy for my comic book show fix.

  4. I’m not surprised. The constant time jumps and weeping mess that was Sheldon Sampson turned me off. And there were the usual suspects; rebellious daughter and a son not quite meeting daddy’s standards. I didn’t make it through the first season.
