Comedy Central commissions Bouncers from NZ

NZ comedy follows a clueless security officers & their supervisor as they struggle to keep their jobs.

Comedy Central and Sky (UK) has commissioned a new eight-part digital series, Bouncers, which follows a rag-tag trio of clueless security officers and their boisterous supervisor as they struggle to keep their jobs in the temp department of a security company.

The series from New Zealand creators Culture Factory and West Park is due to premiere in 2022..

Executive Producer Hanelle Harris said: “Bouncers is important not only because of its representation of marginalised Polynesian subcultures, but because of the opportunity it opens up for the next generation of storytellers.”

Following the overwhelming success of the ground-breaking comedy special SIS, produced by Culture Factory for Comedy Central and Sky in 2020, the creative team are excited to be collaborating with comedian Joe Daymond for this new project. Off the back of the 2020 one-hour special, a full series of SIS (six 30-minute episodes) has also been commissioned and funded and is currently in production.

Daymond’s infamous sketch character Iwin, from the viral sensation This Is Auckland, has become a local icon for millennials and will feature as a key player in the series. Praised for its representation of Polynesian subcultures, Bouncers will be an extension of the authentic nightlife scene depicted in the original online sketch series.

Premiering on Comedy Central UK’s YouTube channel, the eight-part series will also air in New Zealand across Comedy Central on Sky, followed by a free-to-air broadcast on Prime.

Comedy Central is available in Australia through Fetch TV.
