There was only room for one dating show on TV last night.
Farmer Wants a Wife topped entertainment at 853,000 metro viewers, although that was down on 2020’s 1.01m finale.
Nevertheless it trounced the return of The Bachelor at just 482,000, down on 2020’s premiere of 681,000. There was a silver lining however… Bachelor beat all entertainment shows in the demos, go figure. That meant Seven’s older audience did some heavy lifting.
Paired with early Olympics matches (635,000 / 534,000) Seven had an easy win on Wednesday.
Meanwhile 7:30 drew 680,000 then Travel Guides (597,000) and Hard Quiz (502,000).
Later Mad as Hell was 549,000 with movie: Legally Blonde at 304,000.
Seven network won Wednesday with 34.4% then Nine 25.1%, 10 17.5%, ABC 15.5% and SBS 7.6%.
Seven News was #1 at 1.26m / 1.19m for Seven. Home & Away drew 647,000 then The Chase (512,000 / 331,000).
Nine News (1.22m / 1.16m) was best for Nine. A Current Affair (860,000) won its slot then Hot Seat (602,000 / 404,000).
The Project drew 533,000 / 332,000 for 10. 10 News First was 423,000 / 270,000. Bull -which 10 can’t seem to dispense with- was 227,000 / 126,000.
ABC News (816,000) led for ABC. The Drum (234,000), Starstruck (192,000) then Superwog (79,000) and The Last Leg, just 67,000.
On SBS it was SBS World News (220,000 / 169,000), Naples: Under the Volcanic Threat (191,000), King Arthur’s Britain: Truth Unearthed (166,000) and Raiders of the Lost Art: China (157,000) – unusual given it was the 7:30 show.
NCIS led multichannels at 182,000.
Sunrise: 271,000
Today: 243,000
News Breakfast: 134,000 / 86,000
OzTAM Overnights: Wednesday 21 July 2021
Corrected.

The Bachelor debuts on 482K looks as though Ch10 has a disaster on its hands, with 2 weeks of prime time swimming and athletics coming up. Also I won’t be watching any of 10 for next few weeks and im in shut-down, bring on Olympics morning and night.
The Olympics have and will always continue to be removed from the yearly rating averages. I actually think it is smart, for a number of reasons, to start or continue a show during the Olympics.
Personally, i can’t stand the Olympics so i am so excited for some alternate programming.
It actually takes competition to keep a market honest and as the name suggests, competitive, it’s important to remember this before biased comments are made.
And yet beats it’s competition in the demos. As David mentioned, that’s some older viewers propping up the Total people.
Hi David,
I think there’s a typo for the Seven Network share (24% is lower than Nine’s 25%).
“Seven network won Wednesday with 24.4% then Nine 25.1%”. Something is wrong here!
Friendly timezone, cold weather, lockdowns…I feel some very strong Olympic ratings coming over the next few weeks.
Hard Quiz repeats doing better than new Win the Week, ouch. Question is if ABC has enough faith to stick with it and build audience next year
The ABC need to admit that win the week is a dud and swiftly axe it.
The final decision on who the Farmers picked felt like I was watching a poor mans version of The Bachelor anyway.
Exactly! It was boring and dragged out. Bring back the old style where the girl walked in.
Think Bachelor numbers down as people who watch it would also watch Farmer.
People probably taped it or will just catch up tonight
