Julian Hutchens VFX Supervisor at Adelaide Post, Digital and Visual Effects studio nominated for The Boys.

Yvonne Strahovski was not the only Aussie nominated for an Emmy this week.

Adelaide Post, Digital and Visual Effects studio Rising Sun Pictures scored a nomination for its visual effects work on US series The Boys.

The Amazon Prime superhero series was nominated in the category of Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Season Or A Movie, with Rising Sun Pictures VFX Supervisor Julian Hutchens named in the nomination.

Rising Sun said in a statement: “RSP’s work on the season couldn’t have been achieved without the backing of our talented VFX artists, all of whom should be proud of this deserved nomination, and to our amazing partnership with The Boys production team including Overall VFX Supervisor Stephan Fleet, VFX Producer Shalena Oxley-Butler and VFX Coordinator Kat Green. A huge shout out to the entire RSP crew who contributed to hundreds of complex shots on the series which completed during the start of the covid-19 pandemic.”

Rising Sun’s work on The Boys was supported by the SA PDV Rebate, a State Government incentive managed by the SAFC which offers a rebate of 10% of expenditure on post production, digital and visual effects work undertaken in South Australia on eligible productions.

SAFC CEO Kate Croser said, “I congratulate Julian Hutchens and the whole Rising Sun team on their Emmy nomination, which is not just a brilliant accolade for the studio but is also yet another marker of how South Australia has cemented itself as an internationally recognised centre of excellence for PDV,” she said.

“The SAFC is so proud to support the SA PDV sector through the SA PDV Rebate, which since 2018 has boosted South Australia’s position as a globally competitive destination for attracting high end visual effects work on blockbuster films, and has been an important driver of growth for the screen sector and the state overall.

“This is another example of why the State Government’s recently announced extension of the PDV Rebate scheme is so important, so that we can continue to boost the growth of the sector and provide flow on benefits across the entire South Australian screen industry.”
