Nicholas Cage out as Tiger King

There is speculation Amazon Prime may not proceed with a planned series after all.

Nicholas Cage will no longer be portraying Joe Exotic in a Tiger King project which had been planned for Amazon Prime Video.

“We should clear the record,” Cage has told Variety. “I read two excellent scripts, which I did think were excellent, but I think Amazon ultimately felt that it was material that had become past tense because it took so long for it come together. They felt at one point that it was lightning in a bottle, but that point has since faded into the distance and it’s no longer relevant.”

The eight-episode series, which will likely be shopped by CBS Studios, was based on a Texas Monthly article. Amazon Prime declined to comment.

To be clear, the Amazon project was separate to Joe Exotic which Universal Studios Group has been shooting at the lot at Screen Queensland Studios in Brisbane.

Based on a podcast, it features Kate McKinnon as play Carole Baskin, and John Cameron Mitchell as Joe Exotic plus Dennis Quaid, Brian Van Holt, Sam Keeley and Natt Wolff. It is being produced for Peacock in the USA.
