I have to say that I have really enjoyed all 3 season of Secret Scotland. Susan Calman is such a delight and it has been really informative about contemporary and historical aspects of Scotland, I am sad that the third season is a nearing the end.
I said I wasn’t going to watch it but I did. I was completely and utterly disgusted by the one-sided portrayal of the Murugappan family asylum claims on Australian Story last night on the ABC. They failed to mention relevant information from the several tribunal and court sessions that led to the rejection of their asylum claims. They mostly portrayed the position of the left or far-left with Amanda Vanstone thrown in for some measure. Many of the claims were unsubstantiated and false based on or originating fringe non-mainstream sources.
I did once initially have sympathy for the family when the story came to light, but that changed over time due to the highly political and sensationalist nature of the activism. The whole we’ll say anything no matter how dishonest and throw anyone under the bus to get our way mentality.
It was upsetting and disturbing to see the ABC do that, and I couldn’t bring myself to watch HYBPA? in the following timeslot which I had planned to do.
