  1. Sadly, “Celebrity” L&N was worse than I expected. It was great to see David and Lily again, and Hing was nowhere near as annoying as I feared he would be, but we pretty much got the same amount of gameplay in a typical half-hour episode (which is already a bit of a drag) padded out to a whole hour. The panelists were engaged in idle chit-chat until the 11 minute mark before we got to our first game (that’s nearly halfway through a typical half-hour episode, minus ads) not helped by the fact that they weren’t particularly interesting or funny.

It also aired with an M rating yet there was no coarse language (as advised) whatsoever, let alone language that warranted an M, and the only sexual references were some innuendo regarding the fact that “penis” could be spelled within one of the word mixes, but it was never actually said, and the relative brevity of the references in question could likely sit easy with a PG.

I’ll keep tuning in, but I’m not particularly loving it so…

    1. Agreed…it wasn’t as bad as it could have been, but I would prefer that SBS brought back the normal version of the show.

I don’t get why it needed to take so long to get to the gameplay…at least 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown has its mascots and etymology of words segments. Unsure why the dictionary corner guest has been added too…

      1. Seems like this version of the show is based on UK’s Countdown, despite using the Letters and Numbers name. The dictionary corner guest idea comes from that show. I also notice the 30-second timer music in Celebrity Letters and Numbers is using the music from Countdown, rather than the original Letters and Numbers timer music.

  2. Was really looking forward to Celebrity Letters and Numbers last night, but what a disappointment. Michael Hing, the host who I just did not know, gabbled to much and laughed all the time at nothing in particular. Celebrities who I have never heard of, cackled at every bit of the meaningless chatter. The quiz part of the show did not start for15 minutes. I turned off half way through the program. Will not be watching again!
