Airdate: Cowboy Bebop

John Cho, Mustafa Shakir and Daniella Pineda star as bounty hunters in space, trying to outrun the past.

Cowboy Bebop, based on the Japanese anime, premieres tomorrow on Netlflix.

Filmed in NZ, the 10 part series surrounds a group of misfit bounty hunters in space, trying to outrun the past.

John Cho plays an “impossibly cool bounty hunter with a deadly smile, a wry wit, and style to spare,” who traverses the solar system with his ex-cop partner, Jet,  portrayed by Mustafa Shakir.

As different as they are deadly, Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) form a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals — for the right price. But they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their pasts finally catch up with them.

Based on the beloved anime series, Cowboy Bebop is executive produced by André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, Makoto Asanuma, Shin Sasaki and Masayuki Ozaki of Sunrise Inc., Tim Coddington, Tetsu Fujimura, Michael Katleman, Matthew Weinberg, and Christopher Yost. Nemec serves as showrunner. Original anime series director Shinichirō Watanabe is a consultant on the series, and original composer Yoko Kanno returns for the live-action adaptation. The series also stars Alex Hassell and Elena Satine.

Friday 19 November on Netflix.

  1. I just want to say that Faye Valentine is a character in Cowboy Bebop, not an actress (Daniella Pineda is playing Faye Valentine not Faye Valentine playing Daniella Pineda).

    1. Remember watching it on the old ABC2. It was considered one of the greatest animes of all time, and the dub (which was on ABC2) was considered to be the best dub ever. Might check if my local library has the original.

      1. I’ve just started recently watching it. It seems to be a bit of a slow burn, but it’s a lot of fun in the mean time thanks to excellent style.
Original series in on Netflix also.
