Airdate: New York Super Airport

LaGuardia Airport is home to world-first, twin 450-foot-long pedestrian bridges that allow aircraft to pass beneath.

Now that Tuesday night news shows on SBS have wrapped for the year, New York Super Airport premieres tonight.

This is a 3 part series which opens with a look at LaGuardia Airport.

This premiered internationally last month, which could mean some of the filming (or possibly all?) took place during the pandemic.

Episode One:
LaGuardia Airport is hemmed in by river and roads, so designers must push the limits of a tight site by building as tall as possible. This means a vast 120-foot-long escalator is needed to move passengers between floors. But the install hangs precariously in the balance. Below ground the team battles to prevent devastating floods, while above, they build a world-first; twin 450-foot-long pedestrian bridges that allow aircraft to pass beneath.

Tuesday, 16 November at 8.30pm on SBS.

  1. This is a great series and is actually screening a week ahead on Nat Geo on Foxtel. Loving seeing the changes to this airport after having suffered a 6hr delay in one of the terminals back in 2019. Fascinating seeing about the dual bridges that will allow people to literally walk over the top of a plane. Highly recommend!
