New 3 part ABC series Books That Made Us begins on Tuesday with Claudia Karvan setting out across Australia to meet some of our most beloved and brilliant writers, find out their secrets and experience Australia through the place, its people and the power of our stories.

In this first episode Claudia Karvan explores the extraordinary characters of Australian novels. As an actor, for Claudia great story telling is all about people, great characters. And through the fictitious characters of Australian novels, she wants to see what truths we can uncover about ourselves.

Books covered in episode 1 include The Slap, The Choke, True History of the Kelly Gang, They’re a Weird Mob, The Lebs, Too Much Lip, Honeybee, the ‘Edith Trilogy’, and Cloudstreet.
