New UK dramas for Keeley Hawes, Helena Bonham Carter.

A new thriller for Keeley Hawes and a drama about a British TV legend for Helena Bonham Carter.

New British dramas have been announced starring favourites Keeley Hawes and Helena Bonham Carter.

Filming has begun on Crossfire, a major new three-part BBC thriller starring Keeley Hawes (Finding Alice, It’s A Sin, Bodyguard).

Crossfire is set in a luxurious resort in the Canary Islands. Sunbathing on her hotel room balcony while on a dream holiday with her family and friends, Jo’s (Keeley Hawes) world is turned upside down when shots ring out across the complex. Gunmen, out for revenge, have, in an instant, turned a slice of paradise into a terrifying heart-breaking hell.

With the unsuspecting holidaymakers and hotel staff forced to make monumental split-second life or death decisions, the consequences will linger long after the final shots are fired.

ITV have commissioned Nolly, a 3 x 60’ drama starring Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown, Enola Holmes, The King’s Speech, Harry Potter, Burton and Taylor) as Noele Gordon a TV legend and the darling of the establishment until it turned on her and betrayed her.

Noele (or Nolly to her friends) was a legend in her own lifetime. As flame-haired widow Meg Richardson in the long-running soap opera Crossroads, she was one of the most famous people in Britain. Then in 1981, at the height of the show’s success and the peak of Nolly’s fame, she was axed without ceremony, without warning and with no explanation.

With the boss’s words “all good things must come to an end” ringing in her ears, Noele Gordon found herself thrown out of the show that was her life for over 18 years.

The series is written by Russell T Davies (It’s A Sin, Years and Years, A Very English Scandal, Queer as Folk).

Australian broadcasters are yet to be confirmed.

  1. Crossfire’ sounds rather like the Owen Wilson/Lake Bell film ‘No Escape’ of a few years back, except set in an actual place (usually fictional as the local tourism boards aren’t fans of the scenario!).
