Nine to screen Melbourne’s New Year’s Eve

Nine will screen Melbourne’s New Year’s Eve event which includes Australia’s largest ever drone show.

Catriona Rowntree and Clint Stanaway giving host the event from 11pm December 31 on Nine Melbourne.

“We’ll be ringing in 2022 in style with messages from some very special Melburnians, after what has been such a challenging year for our city,” said Catriona Rowntree.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp said: “This will be a New Year’s Eve like no other.

“Melbourne is a city that tries new things, and it is with great pride that we welcome Australia’s largest ever drone show.

“Revellers will be able to celebrate in a COVID-safe way this year, as our ticketed Celebration Zones and outdoor New Year Street Feasts come alive with live music, dancing and eclectic performances.

“We encourage anyone who doesn’t have a ticket to watch all the action from home on Channel 9.”

Aussie comedy troupe Sooshi Mango will join Australian electronic music duo Shouse for a night of performances and laughs as Melbourne news legend Peter Hitchener takes a look back on the best and worst of 2021.

Roving reporters Seb Costello, Allan Raskall and Madeline Slattery will be on the ground at the city’s celebration zones in Docklands, Flagstaff Gardens, Alexandra Gardens and Treasury Gardens – giving viewers a front-row ticket to Melbourne’s biggest party.

The City of Melbourne will also present Australia’s largest ever drone show taking place in the Docklands to ring in the New Year: 350 drones that will stun viewers in a breathtaking seven-minute display just before the midnight fireworks.

The City of Melbourne will come alive this New Year’s Eve at four ticketed celebration zones, with revellers treated to performances, dance workshops, local DJs, as well as food trucks and a disco light installation.
