  1. My review is that the broadcast was actually not bad. However, there was a massive pitfall was between 8:50PM and 9:10PM. I can only describe that part as vomit in the sewage. I’m also aware of the song that was sampled and what it represents, which made it even worse. Totally inappropriate. Stomach churning and nauseating. It’s a pity because I thought the rest of the broadcast and performances were alright.

I’ve been enjoying the NITV content overnight. It’s different to the Volumz content they had on New Year’s in previous years.

  2. Will viewers balk at using the children’s timeslot, listed Welcome To NYE, for cross-promotion with Muster Dogs season 2 full preview. It’s not clear to me what they’re doing to bring cheer to the youth this year, other than a Heeler Family surprise. Will see how it pans out.

The show prior, The Yearly With Charlie Pickering is a repeat and the timeslot could’ve been used for previews instead.

Should it still be a Sydney-centric broadcast from the national broadcaster? They could show performances and activities from Melbourne, Gold Coast etc., to see how they do NYE differently. It’s becoming the same procedure every year for the main show. A lot of people dislike underwhelming New Year’s.

Even Rage finishes early at 6, unlike past years, not for ABC News Breakfast, but for the documentary Makers of Modern Australia. It not even a university day on 1st.

Despite the doomers, I’m really optimistic about 2024.

      1. It’s commenting on the scheduling and programming that have been made, and mentioned in TV Tonight articles for the New Year’s Eve shows. The scheduling and titling is different this year with New Year’s Eve: Welcome To NYE. I agree it’s their biggest audience of the year. This is why I want to see it be a good show to avoid the post-show criticisms.

      2. P.S. it’s more speculating about potential criticism. So I’ve mentioned that I’ll see how it pans out. It could be okay with the dog show preview. It could fit in with the family friendly show, or it could be overt cross-promotion at the expense of something more appropriate.

Just lastly, it’s too late for this year, though why not broadcast live interstate? Then there’s no delayed artificial celebration for some other states and territories.

    1. What’s with the “Boomers”….there are probably people of “all” ages who will watch…a lot of the artists appeal to the younger generation and besides not everyone in this current economic climate can actually afford to go out to celebrate NYE or even want to…no other FTA have any NYE celebrations to broadcast anyway…..I totally agree with David on the criticism….it’s not necessary…..just switch off, watch something else or just get a skin full and pass out in front of the tv…but do keep your pecker up and continue to be optimistic in 2024😂
….Happy New David and to all who follow TVT…🎉

      1. No don’t get me wrong there, it’s doomers (sic). Doomers can be of any age. Some people from older generations use the term to describe some people from younger generations too.

Happy New Year to TVT, readers and commenters.

    2. I think anything more than live crosses to reporters in other capital cities would be pushing the budget too far. Remember its a public broadcaster and not a commercial network. Or they could re-direct some of the budget to cover Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide (even if the latter two on are slightly different timezones for midnight) to make it worthwhile.

While you’re never going to make everyone totally happy, the ABC generally does a good job.
