Cameron Williams resigns from Nine News

"Cam is leaving us to focus on his health and then to pursue other opportunities," says Nine News boss.

Nine News Sydney’s sports presenter Cameron Williams has resigned from Nine after some 16 years with the network, to focus on health.

Williams first joined Nine in 2006 with roles on Today, Weekend Today, Nine News, Rugby World Cup and Friday Night Football until 2016.

But he rejoined Nine News that same year following the retirement of Ken Sutcliffe.

News boss Darren Wick wrote to staff advising, “Cameron Williams has resigned from his role with Nine as on-air sports presenter. Cam is leaving us to focus on his health and then to pursue other opportunities that we look forward to hearing more about.

“I want to thank Cam for his significant contribution to Nine over the past six years. Cam’s last day was 21 March 2022. Please join us in wishing him all the very best.”

Williams wrote: “It’s with a heavy heart I have decided to resign from Nine. Leaving the best team in News is difficult and being part of that team an honour.

“But I have struggled for years with increasingly poor health and I want to address that now for the sake of a more important team, my family. I want to thank Wickie for making this process possible.

“He has kindly offered me a goodbye lunch so I can pay tribute to those who helped me along the way over 15 years total.”

Williams also held roles at Seven Network in 1988 at Seven News, Sportsworld, Barcelona Olympics and in 1996 was the face of FOX Sports for five years anchoring NRL on FOX, Dally M Awards, Super 12 Rugby, Wimbledon, Winter Olympics, the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix and FOX Sports News.

James Bracey will move to weeknight sports anchor role with Emma Lawrence on weekend bulletins.
