Axed: Raising Dion

Netflix superhero family drama ends at two seasons.

Netflix superhero family drama Raising Dion has been axed after two seasons.

Based on a 2015 comic book and short film by Dennis Liu, it starred Alisha Wainwright as a widowed mother raising a 10-year-old son (Ja’Siah Young) with superpowers.

The cast also featured Sammi Haney, Jazmyn Simon, Jason Ritter, Griffin Robert Faulkner and Ali Ahn. Executive producer Michael B. Jordan had a recurring part as Dion’s late father.

Sammi Haney posted on Instagram, “Sad to say that Raising Dion is CANCELED. Thank you for all of the amazing support we got from all of our wonderful fans! Season 2 was a success, equal to Season 1, even if just looking at how many people watched all of it and wanted a season 3!

“The only ‘silver lining’ is that this does free me up to pursue other roles. My Netflix contract kept me from accepting other major roles offered to me (1 actually written with me in mind) on other tv shows! So if you work for a major studio, hit me up again, I’m ready!”

Last week Netflix announced subscribers fell by 200,000 in the first three months of the year as it faced stiff competition from rivals, causing its shares to plunge 25%.
