Home & Away fans unhappy over The Voice plans

Seven holds back Summer Bay soap to give The Voice every hope against massive competition.

It’s a flamin’ outrage…

Not for the first time, fans of Home & Away are decidedly unimpressed with Seven’s plans to hold back an episode next week, in favour of The Voice.

Up against Lego Masters and MasterChef Australia premieres, Seven will premiere The Voice in a 7pm slot on Easter Monday, giving the network a 30 minute jump over the competition.

Night 1 is crucial for the three big juggernauts with viewers likely to be invested after they see 2022 characters in episode 1.

It’s at least the second time Seven has employed the tactic after holding off episodes in 2019 when My Kitchen Rules was given a 7pm timeslot against MAFS.

A petition has already been started at Change.org for fans, so far with nearly 500 signatures.

Fan Jamie Whitworth wrote, “I am creating this petition to have Channel Seven stop putting other tv shows in the time slot of Home and Away. This has been ongoing for too long now and why should Home and Away suffer for other shows such as The Voice being put on in place of Home and Away? I want the network to take notice and realise they lose viewers to other channels when they cancel episodes.”

Summer Bay fans will be back to normal next Tuesday with the soap in the 7pm slot.

  1. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I am a huge fan having watched it since it began. They have in past years introduced and touched on real topics and issues such as drug and alcohol abuse. I do get upset with channel 7 taking the show off in place of other shows or at this stage bloody Harry Potter, why not put that on on a weekend.

  2. H&A is shown only 4 days a week since 2013, some weeks could be 3 episodes on Thursday nights but not always, sometimes 2 or sometimes 1. Neighbours has a shorter off air break over Christmas whereas H&A is off air a lot long like 2 months because of sport – first with the tennis (when it was on channel 7) and now cricket. There’s also the Olympic and Commonwealth Games for 2 weeks if on 7, where as Neighbours doesn’t have that problem. Add that up and it’s about 6 months behind.

    1. You’d need to factor production breaks, including when it stopped quite a bit during COVID, whereas Neighbours didn’t. It screened during Winter Olympics, we haven’t had Comm Games this year…. unless it’s verified by production, I’d be cautious about sums from the couch.

  3. Agree with grrargh722 people are making a mountain out of a mole hill, and as was said it’s one episode, suppose we had a power cut and lost electricity, you could easily loose an episode that way.

    1. Baffles me people would sign a petition because a show was off air for one night but turn a blind eye to issues of war, poverty and injustice.

      1. Correct. There is a war in Ukraine, and yet we are more concerned about a show being off air for one night or whether a channel is in high definition or not. The fact that there is a petition over a show not being on for just one night is a great example of a First World Problem. So I agree with you guys, this is an example of making a mountain out of a mole hole when there is more important things to worry about.

        1. It’s possible to be concerned about world affairs and upset about TV programming, they aren’t mutually exclusive. On an entertainment blog it’s a fair grievance. The site is full of programming feedback throughout wars, famines, floods, and a pandemic. A soap offers a little escapism from them all.

  4. Most viewers would consider 7pm to be the Home and Away timeslot so it could backfire as people wouldn’t switch over to Seven for anything other than H&A unless they have checked out the advertisements and EPG for The Voice. It would be interesting to see if the ratings increase throughout the broadcast of The Voice and whether there is disappointment about missing part of The Voice from viewers that thought H&A would be on anyway at 7pm.

  5. I am fed up with 7 moving Home And Away around the schedule whenever they feel like put the show on at 7pm and leave it their On 7 not 7two or switch the show over to 7two permantly

  6. H&A is at least 6 months behind of what they’ve filmed to what finally goes to air which is dreadful, AUS is more update with the US drama shows than we are here with our own and happened years ago after H&A was removed from Friday nights because of the football which isn’t even on anyway it’s Better Homes and Gardens. If channel 7 wants better ratings than get H&A back on Friday nights with even 2 more episodes on Thursday and/or Friday nights to make up the 6 months.

  7. It’s only an episode, I’m not sure what they’re so fussed about.

This past Monday, Seven aired three episodes.

I’ll agree that Seven needs to be a lot more consistent in their programming of Home and Away, but this seems to be making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill.
