James Corden to exit Late, Late Show in 2023.

“We wish he could stay longer," says CBS as James Corden signals departure after an 8 year run.

James Corden will exit The Late Late Show in 2023 after eight years at the desk.

Corden began hosting the US weeknight show in 2015, succeeding Craig Ferguson and making his Carpool Karaoke segments famous. His contract was due to expire in August but he agreed to host for one more season to end in the US Spring next year.

“Seven years ago, James Corden came to the US and took television by storm, with huge creative and comedic swings that resonated in a big way with viewers on-air and online,” said George Cheeks, president and CEO of CBS.

“We wish he could stay longer, but we are very proud he made CBS his American home and that this partnership will extend one more season on The Late Late Show,” Cheeks added.

But his departure could signal a wider shift in late night hosts.

Viewership for shows like Corden’s have dropped steeply in recent years, the New York Times reported, and several other prominent late-night hosts, including Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, also have contracts slated to end soon.

  1. Noooooooo James Corden is absolutely brilliant and so is his show and the banter between the crew. I’ll miss him like I still miss David Letterman. So sad.
But 10 should never have taken it off their main channel

  2. A bit of a surprise, but I suppose he’s keen to get back into films and TV singing and acting (we shan’t mention the ‘Cats’ fiasco’).

  3. That’s a surprise Corden probably feels the time is right to move on.If CBS had a issue with him they wouldn’t have offered for a further year.To me what’s happened these talk show hosts have suffered due to the impact of the pandemic for 2 years not having a live studio audience really made it tough for these programs to get by.I used to watch Corden regularly but when the pandemic hit it didn’t feel the same missing the audience interaction.Still not watching the show but watch the odd clip that gets posted

    1. I still enjoy Corden. He is great. A decent-sized audience is back and he does a walk-on again with Reggie introducing him with “All the way from…” and James throws to the title again (“This, this is the late late show, roll the titles”), but he only does the guest check in before the titles. Also there hasn’t been much audience participation yet.

  4. Colbert is #1, so I doubt he’s going anywhere. None of the other late night hosts come close, really. Apart from Corden’s musical bits, I don’t find him very entertaining.

  5. Wow, I am surprised about this. The Late Late Show screens on 10Shake not 10Peach.
It used to be on 10Peach, but it moved. 10Peach is basically now Children’s Programs in
the morning and Sitcom repeats all night, with Neighbours thrown in. But no episodes
of The Late Late Show have been on 10Peach for a while now.
