ABC viewers hit by TV outage

ABC went down for around 40 minutes late last night, across all channels, live, iview and Foxtel.

ABC viewers experienced a national outage late last night which impacted terrestrial, VAST, Foxtel, iview live streaming, and ABC Australia internationally

The outage at around 11.40pm was caused by a piece of ABC equipment located at MediaHub.

TV Tonight understands ABC had some routine headend encoder maintenance which went awry.  There were some extra complications with some terrestrial transmitter sites not handling the input loss well and needing a bit more effort to restore service.

Service to most states was back within 15 minutes, although ACT and Tasmania weren’t back on air until 12.23am.

An ABC spokesperson told TV Tonight, “We got onto it as fast as we could – and apologise for any inconvenience to viewers.”

The issue also meant Foxtel EPG lost access to ABC channels. Update: to restore, reboot the IQ and rescan terrestrial channels.

    1. Since when did the budget extend to rubber bands?

I got told it was Paul Lyneham’s bulldog clip from the 1993 debate he moderated between Abbott and Turnbull on 7.30 finally fell from the gantry.

  1. Thanks David for the update

I just spoke to someone at Foxtel and they also told me a tip to rescan the terrestrial channels into the iQ5 box
