Seven secures final Leader’s Debate

Mark Riley to moderate third and final debate -meaning ABC misses out.

The Seven Network has secured the third and final Leader’s Debate between PM Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese.

Mark Riley will moderate the event on Wednesday May 11 following Big Brother (time is TBA).

Seven Network Director of News and Public Affairs, Craig McPherson, said: “This will be a showdown unlike any other debate, perhaps the most crucial hour of this campaign for both leaders, and there’s no better moderator than Seven’s Mark Riley.

“Mark has been with the leaders on the road since the campaign started. He is across all the key issues voters want answers to and with his encyclopaedic knowledge, it is sure to be a true test just 10 days out from when Australia votes for who will be our next leader.”

It will feature questions from The West Australian’s Federal Political Editor Lanai Scarr and 7NEWS political correspondent Jennifer Bechwati fresh from the campaign trail.

Immediately following the debate, Michael Usher will anchor a special edition of The Latest including the winner tallies and a comprehensive breakdown of the key issues.

This means ABC will miss out on their chance to stage a debate, despite beseeching from the broadcaster.

  1. They would be better off screening Britain’s Got Talent – I sick of hearing about politics I won’t be watching any of the broadcasts

  2. Well this is completely pointless now , both networks could have started this at 7.30 not 8.45 on 9 or 9.15 on 7 ,I won’t watch either ,the shows could be rested for a day.

  3. “following Big Brother (time is TBA)”. Seven will of course advertise and promote it to start at, say, 9.23 but then annoyingly have BB run 15 mins overtime for ‘promotional’ purposes. I thought this was one reason why we had ABC.

Why did the ABC miss out? Do we know?

    1. Thats how i feel about the rest of the media’s towards Morrison never follow up on his lies
It amazes me that some think this lnp government is worth voting in again, no icac, no action on climate change, sports rorts, tudge, porter, colbeck, Dutton geezzz

      1. On the flip side we have a would be Prime Minister not able to answer 2 basic questions; What is the current unemployment and cash rate? But I’ll leave you with this. One doesn’t deserve to be our Prime Minister and the other will not be getting my vote.
