Travel Guides: May 18

This week guides are in Sydney, the Great Ocean Road and Ballarat.

It’s the final episode of Travel Guides on Wednesday.

Tonight the guides are in Sydney, but tomorrow they hit western Victoria, from the Great Ocean Road to Ballarat, in a 500k road trip.

They visit Otway Ranges, the Twelve Apostles, Sovereign Hill, Kryal Castle (why?) and Tuki Trout Farm.

Starting at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport, our Guides pick up their cars to start the great Victorian road trip.

The Great Ocean Road twists and turns its way for 240km along the rugged south coast of Victoria. Entering the Otway Ranges, our Guides explore ancient rainforests with a side of adrenaline at Live Wire Park, scaling obstacles ten metres above ground and flying down the zip coaster reaching speeds of 40km per hour.

With breathtaking views around every turn, our Guides continue the road trip to admire the Twelve Apostles. For an even better view of the coastline, they take to the skies in full aerobatic Fighter Trainer planes performing inverted victory rolls and g-force-inducing barrel rolls challenging some to hold onto their lunch.

Back on the ground, our Guides put the coast in the rear-view mirror and head inland to the historic town of Ballarat, known for its colonial architecture and golden past.

The great Victorian Gold Rush is celebrated at Sovereign Hill, a living museum that demonstrates all aspects of life on the gold fields in the mid 1800’s.

7:30pm Wednesday on Nine.
