Logies deliver huge Sunday share for Nine

Logies draw a huge 885,000 viewers on Sunday and a massive share for Nine.

Who says viewers don’t watch the Logie Awards?

Nine gobbled up a huge 43.1% share with their mammoth 5+ hour broadcast of the awards after a 3 year break.

The awards averaged 885,000 metro viewers in preliminary figures from 7:30pm to 11pm with a further 826,000 for the Red Carpet Arrivals. But the awards ran overtime meaning the Top Ten of Everything at 538,000 gives an indication that there were still big numbers watching when Hamish Blake took home the Gold.

Those numbers are up on 2019’s 866,000 when Nine had a 38.9% share.

Elsewhere last night MasterChef Australia was 484,000, then Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery (415,000) and 7News Spotlight (388,000).

Later Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears was 340,000 then Border Security (244,000), and movie: The Equalizer 2 (179,000).

Nine won Sunday with 43.1% then Seven 19.6%, 10 15.3%, ABC 13.9% and SBS 8.1%.

Nine News drew 931,000.

Seven News was #1 at 944,000.

The Sunday Project was 310,000 / 232,000. 10 News First was 285,000 / 211,000. NCIS: Hawaii was 155,000.

ABC News drew 514,000. Why Didn’t They Ask Evans was 139,000.

On SBS it was SBS World News (143,000 / 119,000), Voices from the Dead (118,000), Mesopotamia 3D and Alhambra Secrets Of The Ancient Builders (both 85,000).

  1. They could have cut that routine with the young boy🙄 …and all the scripted banter between 9 people…the short pieces
from Chrissie and young Tony (he is such a breath of fresh air)….and others was fine….also if the whole cast is going onstage…they need to be told beforehand to hustle their bustle….And to Neighbours fans…how much longer did you want the Logies to run for?……they did what they could in the time frame they had.

  2. Loved it mostly but jeez it dragged on at times and I didn’t make it to the end…
Lady J Mo went about 5 minutes toooo long and the voice over is just superfluous jibber jabber…
The gaps between getting to and from stage need to be looked at, it seemed like herding cattle at times does everyone who was in or associated with the show really need to be on the stage ?
And I know this will be controversial but Patty Newton’s tribute to Bert and Bruce McAvaney acceptance were a little tooooo long and rambled as well…
    In memoriam was all class…

    1. I think Gold Logie winners (Hall of Fame and Popular Personality), as well as the opener, can be longer. Funny that Julia did say for acceptance speeches to not be too long but she was long-ish. The tribute to Bert was needed at that length, you couldn’t really shorten a tribute from the first lady of Australian TV’s night of nights. Bert was the Logies for so many years. Tony Martin has done the voice overs for previous years and he has been the same then too. I think the Neighbours tribute should have been longer with more people on the stage from the show. I liked the song and dance they did when they were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Something more was needed. I still don’t understand how it has been a three year break, when the logies were only missing for two years. 2019-2020, 2020-2021 & 2021-2022 is three full years, but the logies was on in 2019 and on in 2022 so those years shouldn’t be counted. Only two ceremonies were missed, not three.

  3. I ended up watching the whole thing, was only going to watch an hour so they did well to keep me watching for so long, at half past 8 I thought time to turn off soon as two and a half hours to go, should have known would be 3 hours at least lol.

  4. How has it been a three year break? The last Logie Awards were in 2019. That would be three years ago, but only two award ceremonies were missed.

      1. It is three years since the last logies, but only two years was missed (2020 and 2021) so saying it’s a three year breaks sounds like it is three awards ceremonies, but it is only two.

  5. I enjoyed parts of the Logies, but it’s far too long. Even longer than the Oscars! My opinion – drop all of the popular awards, bar the Gold Logie, which is still the pinnacle of the night. Keep all of the Outstanding Awards, which are voted on by an industry panel. That would wipe out a solid hour right there. It simply does not need to be 4 hours long.

    1. I think keep the popular ones, that’s what keeps you watching if you’ve voted to see who won against who you picked. Should drop some of the musical acts, probably good for the live audience but drags the show out too long, plus the inane parts like the boy Hamish and Andy spoke too wasn’t funny and fell flat and just drained another 5 minutes from am already long show.

  6. Well I realize seven managed to steal back a SoO week last week but that was due to Royals and the afl. Based on my back of the envelope calculations, this gap is likely too much for afl only to make up. The logies production was noticeably better IMO from the recent pre Covid past so deserved to attract (and retain) eyeballs.

  7. I enjoyed The Logies. Highlights were Bruce McAvaney, Tony Armstrong and Chrissy Swan. Lowlights were Julia Morris and Sam Mac. Love Julia normally but just thought the jokes had been done in a similar way on different awards shows and just were not funny. I also like Sam Mac but just thought that Today joke was a bit low. I did not realise Chrissy Swan was so witty, she got the biggest laughs with her home and Away joke and her banter with Karl. Tony Armstrong is such a natural talent and loved his jokes about a new contract after getting his Logie. The Brisbane venue is so good and the production was good also.
