10 pushes ahead of Seven on Monday. Today beats Sunrise.

MasterChef draws best crowd this season, an upset at breakfast, and a big lift in Total TV numbers for NITV drama.

Nine drew another win on Monday although 10 finished second, pushing Seven into third place.

MasterChef Australia‘s semi final topped entertainment at 693,000 metro viewers -its biggest audience so far this year.

That bested the Australian Ninja Warrior grand final (560,000), 7:30 (555,000), Back Roads (514,000) and Big Brother (329,000).

Later Have You Been Paying Attention? won with 630,000 then Four Corners (464,000), Media Watch (401,000), and Million Dollar Murders (235,000).

It’s worth noting there was also some remaining Wimbledon data with 447,000 viewers watching post 2am yesterday… which may have helped Today (206,000) beat Sunrise (190,000). News Breakfast was 109,000 / 60,000.

Nine network won Monday with 29.7% then 10 23.5%, Seven 21.9%, ABC 17.4% and SBS 7.6%.

Nine News was 928,000 / 912,000 for Nine then A Current Affair (730,000) and Hot Seat (441,000 / 297,000).

The Project drew 428,000 / 264,000 for 10. 10 News First was 333,000 / 225,000. Montreal Comedy Festival was 174,000.

Seven News was #1 at 981,000 / 913,000 for Seven. The Chase won with 615,000 / 359,000 then Home & Away (445,000). 9-1-1: Lone Star was 167,000 / 140,000.

ABC News was 616,000. Neighbours: End of the Road (202,000) and The Drum (191,000) followed.

On SBS it was SBS World News (153,000 / 237,000), The Queen’s Guard: A Year in Service (123,000), 24 Hours in Emergency (120,000), Saving Lives at Sea (115,000) and Mastermind (80,000). Good to see True Colours also pulled a massive  136% lift in Total TV numbers for last Monday.

Bluey topped multichannels again at 146,000.

  1. Big Brother has a big watch later factor hey, overnights last Monday at 348,000 and after the week 728,000, a lift of 380,000, guess it will do similar again by next week, HYBPA lifting from 598,000 to 964,000 is pretty impressive as well being 366,000 more.

    1. Exactly! When you look at overnights, it doesn’t look promising to return, but seven day totals are quite impressive – In this case, beating Ninja Warrior.
      I think we may just get another season..

    2. I’m one of those that records and watches Big Brother later, generally the same night. Like most reality shows, episodes are too long and have too many recaps. Then there’s the focus on the same contestants episode after episode. I edit episodes down quite a bit and really enjoy the edited version I watch. To be fair i’m time poor, so I cram as much as I can into my TV viewing. I hope we get another season, I much prefer this format to the original, just would like to see shorter episodes.

  2. HYBPA has had a lot of new guests this year so far – to mixed results. I think the show is at its strongest when both Ed and Sam are there. They have individually sat out more eps so far than previous years. Including a couple of weeks back when they were both missing. It’s a case of not really appreciating them until they are not there. They actually really anchor the show.

    1. I actually find that the episodes without Ed are overall stronger! Without Sam, it can get pretty dry though, and he has been missing more then Ed. At this point I wouldn’t mind seeing Ed replaced with someone like Urzila, Mick Molloy, Tony Martin or Aaron Chen (although, I concede that Aaron may be too niche of a taste to be a weekly guest).

      I’d love to see Sam Taunton get a guest spot to see how it goes – saw him at the Comedy Fest this year without hearing of him before because I was offered a cheap ticket, and he was actually my overall festival highlight. He’s young, but he is really funny.

  3. I wasn’t aware of Ray O’Leary until HYBPA? last night. He was the star of the show and had the audience in hysterics. I’m not sure how famous he is in NZ, however, Ray is another one of these comedians who are underrated and underexposed.

    I saw an advertisement for Slow TV Sundays on NITV. The upcoming show in the guide is The Ghan: Australia’s Greatest Train. It’s likely to be a repeat, but it’s a viewer favourite and it’s good to see Slow TV on free-to-air again.
