Apartment Rules production “on track”

Remember that House Rules reboot that was announced?

Not much has been said about plans for Apartment Rules, an apparent reboot of House Rules for Seven.

Seven announced the series in its 2022 Upfronts, to be produced by an unnamed independent production company, given it culled a number staff in its Seven Studios division (now focussed on producing Better Homes & Gardens, Home & Away).

“The mega-hit that was House Rules will be reborn and reimagined in an innovative twist to the format. Set in one of Australia’s biggest cities, the new series will take renovation to a whole new level. Stay tuned for more details in 2022,” Seven announced last October.

Since then there has been no word on said production company, casting nor host and it hasn’t been included in a recent update on remaining 2022 shows.

A Seven spokesperson told TV Tonight, “The production of Apartment Rules is on track and we’ll provide more information when we have specific details to announce.”

Whether ‘on track’ means it will still screen in 2022 is unclear, and such ambitions would arguably leave it pitted against The Block.

Seven’s Director of Scheduling Brook Hall earlier this year said, “We would not want to be putting it against The Block. I think we’re past those days in television where we put ‘like for like’ shows against each other.”

Seven is also yet to announce casting for true crime drama Claremont but that has been underway.

  1. If anything it sounds like it’ll be more Block-esque if they’re renovating apartments in the same block. Also completely removes the USP of them doing their own homes.
